Zadie Smith
Fraud
with Peter Guttridge
Holy Trinity Church, Hurstpierpoint
In Fraud, her first historical novel, Zadie Smith transports us from literary London to Jamaica’s sugar-cane plantations, weaving an enthralling story linking the rich and the poor, the free and the enslaved and the comic and the tragic. There are many references in the book to local places: a chapter entitled Cuckfield Park and another headed Hurstpierpoint, West Sussex.
Zadie Smith is one of the most widely admired novelists of her generation. Twice shortlisted and once winner of the Women’s Prize for Fiction, shortlisted for the Booker Prize, she has twice been named among Granta 20 Best Young British novelists.
