We are delighted to have been awarded the ‘Community Arts Festival of the
Year, West Sussex‘ by Prestige Awards.
The judges selected Cuckfield Bookfest due to its aims of enriching the cultural
life of the area by providing locals of all ages with the opportunity to engage
with and be inspired by these authors and poets and through them, the process of writing and creativity.
With such high demand for the Big Book Group with Sophie Hardach, we have had to increase seating!
You do not need to have read the book to join us in the Queen’s Hall for Confession with Blue Horses, an atmospheric and devastating story of lives built and destroyed in the shadow of the Berlin Wall.
Sophie is a German-born writer and journalist living in London. She is the author of four books, including the Costa-shortlisted Confession with Blue Horses, and works as a feature writer and editor for the BBC.
Julian Worricker, frequent visitor to Cuckfield Bookfest and familiar voice on BBC R4 will be talking to Sophie.
Please send in a question before the session, by emailing info@cuckfieldbookfest.co.uk.
Everyone has a book in them!
In this lively interactive Creative Writing Workshop we will read and discuss examples of strong characterisation from contemporary fiction and write in response to exercises.
There will be an opportunity to read your work to the group and to ask lots of questions!
MY MY! is the story of ABBA told through a selection of their greatest hits.
“This witty and affectionate account” (Sunday Times) charts the highs and lows
of Swedish sensation ABBA who burst on to the international music scene by
winning the Eurovision song contest. How is it that half a century later this
seventies Eurovision act is bigger than ever – reaching listeners of all ages and
spinning off into musicals, museums and holograms?
Giles Smith, writer and music fan, sets out to find out why. It’s a book about
growing old, and the things that never do. And it’s a book about fashion, snobbery, authenticity, critical judgement, the passage of time – and the triumphant ability of truly great pop music to transcend all of those things forever.
MY MY! is a celebration of ABBA through the ages. It’s one fan’s way of saying:
‘thank you for the music ‘.
This is a revealing story that tells how music of the 1990s rewired a young girl’s life.
A powerful coming-of-age story, this is also a coming-out story about growing up in a provincial town. It is the tale of an outsider who, through connections made at gigs and other things, finds the people and the places that will take her to her life.
Anna Doble is a journalist and the digital editor at BBC World Service. She has previously worked at BBC1 and Channel 4 News.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming you for our eighth Cuckfield Bookfest.
Best wishes
