Life in the Garden
with Al Senter
Sunday 6th October 2.00pm – 3.00pm
£10.00 per person
Penelope Lively takes up her key themes of time and memory, and her lifelong passions for art, literature, and gardening in this philosophical and poetic memoir. From the courtyards of her childhood home in Cairo to a family cottage in Somerset, to her own gardens in Oxford and London, she conducts an expert tour, from Eden to Sissinghurst and into her own backyard, traversing the lives of writers like Virginia Woolf and Philip Larkin while imparting her own spare wisdom. Twice shortlisted for the Booker Prize, she won it in 1987 for her highly acclaimed novel Moon Tiger. She was made a Dame in 2012 for services to literature.
Penelope Lively will be in conversation with Al Senter who was for many years the host of the popular actor interview series at the National Theatre. A frequent guest at literary festivals, he is a practised author interviewer.
